Brain Injury Attorney in Covington, KY

Over 125 Years Serving Covington: Direct Attorney Access When It Matters Most

A traumatic brain injury changes everything. Medical decisions, financial pressure, and legal deadlines arrive all at once, often before the full impact of the injury is even understood. At Adams Law, we handle brain injury cases for victims and families throughout Covington and Northern Kentucky, KY, and we know how much is riding on the choices made in the early weeks after an injury.

Brain injuries caused by another party’s negligence can support a personal injury claim, but TBI cases are among the most complex in personal injury law. Symptoms may not surface immediately, and their long-term consequences often unfold over months or years. That’s why attentive, direct legal counsel matters from the start. Our attorneys are licensed in Kentucky and Ohio state courts, federal courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. We offer free initial consultations so you can understand your options without any upfront commitment.

If you or a family member has suffered a brain injury in Covington or the surrounding Northern Kentucky area, call us at (859) 681-6877 or reach out through our online contact form to schedule your free consultation.

Why Covington Brain Injury Clients Work with Adams Law

Families managing a loved one’s brain injury face simultaneous medical, financial, and legal pressures. The last thing anyone needs is an attorney who’s hard to reach or who hands the matter off to a case manager. At Adams Law, clients work directly with an attorney throughout their case: not a legal assistant, not a paralegal. We respond promptly to phone calls and emails and give honest, clear guidance at every stage.

We set realistic expectations rather than overpromising outcomes. That approach reduces stress during an already difficult time and builds the trust needed to make sound decisions together. Our goal is efficient, practical resolution, not prolonged proceedings. Several of our attorneys have been recognized as Super Lawyers and as Best Lawyers in America, a distinction reflecting the top six percent of private practicing lawyers nationwide. We’re also invested in this community through local sponsorships and charitable support because Covington is where we practice and where our clients live.

Insurance companies routinely work to minimize TBI settlements, often exploiting the gap between injury and symptom onset. Our attorneys communicate directly and respond quickly, which can help counter those strategies early in the process.

How We Handle a Brain Injury Case

Every case starts with a free consultation. We listen to what happened, review the circumstances, and tell you honestly what we think. From there, our investigation covers police or incident reports, medical records, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage. Brain injury cases frequently involve neurologists, neuropsychologists, and vocational specialists to document the full physical, cognitive, and financial impact of the injury, and we coordinate that involvement throughout.

Most claims move toward settlement negotiations with the at-fault party’s insurer. When insurers undervalue or deny claims, we’re prepared to take the case to court. Adams Law has full-service litigation capabilities, combining the resources of a larger firm with the direct attention of a practice that treats every client as a priority.

A Covington Firm Practicing Before Kenton County Courts

Adams Law has been part of the Covington, KY community since 1895: over 125 years of continuous legal practice in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. Brain injury cases filed in this area proceed through the Kenton County Circuit Court at the Kenton County Justice Center in Covington. We practice there regularly. We know the courts, the procedures, and the local context that shapes how a liability case is built and presented.

Covington and Kenton County roadways, construction sites, and commercial properties are common settings for the accidents that produce brain injury claims. That local knowledge isn’t incidental. It informs how we investigate, how we frame liability, and how we prepare a case for negotiation or trial.

Kentucky’s Filing Deadlines for Brain Injury Claims

Kentucky’s personal injury statute of limitations is one year from the date of injury under KRS 413.140(1)(a). Missing that deadline typically bars a claim permanently. There are important variations depending on the circumstances:

  • Motor vehicle accidents: When a brain injury results from a car, truck, or motorcycle collision, the filing window extends to two years under KRS 304.39-230, running from the date of the accident or the last PIP payment, whichever is later.
  • Wrongful death: A fatal brain injury is governed by KRS 413.180, which ties the filing deadline to the appointment of a personal representative for the estate. The lawsuit must be filed within one year of that appointment, with an absolute outer limit of two years from the date of death.
  • Injured minors: Under KRS 413.170, the statute of limitations is tolled until the injured person turns 18.
  • Delayed symptoms: Kentucky’s discovery rule may extend the deadline when a brain injury’s symptoms weren’t immediately apparent, but this extension is narrow and not guaranteed.
  • Government defendants: Claims involving a government entity may require written notice within as few as 90 days of the injury, making early legal consultation especially critical.

One year is among the shortest personal injury filing windows in the country. Don’t wait to find out which deadline applies to your situation.
